Worship Sundays @ 11:00am
Worship Sundays @ 11:00am
From September to June St. John’s has a Sunday school program for those in Primary to Grade 6. After being dismissed from the sanctuary, children are invited to a brightly coloured open space upstairs that can be transformed to meet the needs of our program. Sunday school is lead by a dedicated team of volunteer parents with the support of our Children and Youth Program Leader.
Our Sunday school primarily uses The Go Project, a curriculum through the United Church of Canada that focuses on the Christian faith story and relevant timely issues like creation care, social justice and inclusivity. From time to time we will use other resources like that from Illustrated Ministry or Godly Play.
Our Sunday school begins by lighting the Christ candle, hearing and engaging in the Biblical story and responding through games, crafts and hands on projects. There are times when our story will bring us into the church kitchen or outside around a campfire!
St. John’s has an active youth group called KOGA (kids on God’s adventure, self-named) for grades 7-12. We meet Sunday mornings during worship on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Sunday of the month, and at night on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month in a dedicated space upstairs. We check-in, light a Christ candle, hear and engage the story of faith and how that relates to us now, play a few games and pray supporting each other throughout the week.
KOGA also meets for social activities throughout the year on weekend nights, organizes service projects and helps to lead worship services in the sanctuary.
Ready to take the next step in learning about your faith, joining the church, or just exploring the way of Jesus? From time to time we offer Confirmation classes for those who are interested in taking that next step. From 6 to 10 sessions in length, each series is designed to suit the needs of the participants. Confirmation group is a wonderful place to explore who you are, who God is, what it means to be a disciple of Jesus and to belong to St. John’s United Church. Please call the church office (902-860-4000) for more info.
Learning the Way of Jesus is a life-long adventure. Throughout the year you will find a selection of learning groups for adults. These are a great way to get to know people and build supportive relationships, all while learning and growing as followers of Jesus. Please see the upcoming events section of the website for our latest offerings.
The United Church Women (UCW) are a vibrant group of women who meet monthly to have fellowship, learn, worship, and serve together. St. John’s UCW also present three special fundraising events throughout the year: the Turkey a la King Luncheon and Christmas Bazaar, the Fish Chowder Luncheon and Easter Sale, and the Strawberry Festival. In addition to raising much-needed funds, these events bring our community together and the women have fun working together on them. Please contact the church office for details about the next meeting (902-860-4000).
